Care Guide
Light
Provide bright, indirect light.
Good light supports healthy growth and helps a variegated plant make the most of the chlorophyll available in its green tissue.
Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, particularly on the cream or yellow portions of the leaves. Variegated tissue contains less chlorophyll and can be more susceptible to scorching.
Water
Allow the upper portion of the potting mix to begin drying before watering thoroughly.
Water until excess drains freely from the pot and don’t allow the root zone to remain continuously saturated.
Rather than watering according to a fixed schedule, check the soil. Your plant’s needs will change depending on light, temperature, pot size, season, and how actively it is growing.
Humidity
Florida Beauty appreciates moderate humidity but can be grown successfully in household conditions when its other needs are met.
Higher humidity can be helpful during active growth, but good airflow remains important.
Temperature
Warm, stable household temperatures are best.
Protect the plant from cold drafts and abrupt temperature changes.
Fertilizer
Feed periodically during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the product directions.
More fertilizer will not create more variegation.
Please don’t sacrifice healthy roots trying to convince a plant to make prettier leaves for you.
Growth Habit
Florida Beauty is a climbing Philodendron.
Provide a moss pole, plank, trellis, or another sturdy vertical support to allow it to follow its natural climbing habit.
As the plant grows and matures, its distinctive lobed foliage creates an increasingly dramatic appearance.
A Note About Variegation
Florida Beauty’s variegation can naturally vary considerably from leaf to leaf.
Cream, yellow, lime, and green may appear in different amounts and patterns, and no responsible seller can promise what the next leaf will look like.
The lighter areas contain less chlorophyll and may also develop cosmetic browning more readily than green tissue.
Please don’t evaluate the health of the entire plant based on whether one particular leaf produced the pattern you hoped for.
Variegation is something to enjoy—not something the plant owes us.
Pet Safety
Not pet friendly. Like other Philodendrons, Florida Beauty contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and can cause painful oral irritation if chewed or ingested by cats or dogs.
Keep it away from pets and small children likely to chew foliage.
