Care Guide

Light

Bright, indirect light encourages vigorous growth and helps Golden Pothos maintain its attractive yellow variegation.

One of the reasons this plant is so popular, however, is its adaptability. Golden Pothos can tolerate considerably lower-light conditions, although growth may slow and variegation may become less pronounced.

Protect it from prolonged harsh direct sunlight.

Water

Allow the potting medium to dry somewhat between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain.

Golden Pothos is relatively forgiving of occasional drying, but consistently waterlogged soil can cause root problems.

Rather than watering on a rigid calendar, check the soil and let the plant’s actual conditions help determine when it’s ready.

Humidity

Golden Pothos is adaptable to typical indoor conditions and does not require greenhouse-level humidity to be successfully grown as a houseplant.

Temperature

Warm, stable household conditions are appropriate. Protect the plant from cold drafts and significant temperature extremes.

Fertilizer

Feed periodically during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the product directions.

There is no need to push a Golden Pothos into faster growth with excessive fertilizer. Good light, healthy roots, and consistent care will do far more for it.

Growth Habit

Golden Pothos is a trailing and climbing vine.

Allowed to trail, its vines can cascade beautifully from shelves and hanging planters. Given a suitable vertical support, its aerial roots can attach as it climbs, and adequately lit climbing plants can eventually produce significantly larger mature foliage.

Pruning longer vines can encourage a fuller appearance, and stem cuttings root readily, making Golden Pothos an especially enjoyable plant to propagate and share.

Pet Safety

Not pet friendly. Golden Pothos contains calcium oxalate crystals and can cause oral irritation and other symptoms if chewed or ingested by cats or dogs. Keep it away from pets and children likely to chew the foliage.
