Care Guide
Light
Provide bright, indirect light for healthy growth.
Arrowhead Plants can tolerate somewhat lower indoor light, although growth may be slower. Protect the foliage from prolonged, intense direct sunlight, which can cause damage.
Water
Allow the upper portion of the potting mix to begin drying before watering thoroughly.
Let excess water drain freely and avoid allowing the roots to remain continuously saturated.
Rather than watering automatically on a particular day of the week, check the soil. Your plant’s water use will vary with its light, temperature, pot size, season, and rate of growth.
Humidity
Arrowhead Plant appreciates moderate humidity but can adapt to typical household conditions.
Higher humidity can be beneficial, particularly during active growth, but good airflow remains important.
Temperature
Warm, stable household temperatures are best.
Protect the plant from cold drafts and abrupt temperature changes.
Fertilizer
Feed periodically during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the product directions.
There’s no need to overfeed in an effort to force faster growth. Healthy roots, good light, and consistent care are a much better foundation.
Growth Habit
Arrowhead Plant is naturally a climbing aroid.
Young plants typically display the familiar arrow-shaped foliage, while leaves can become more divided as the plant matures.
It can be allowed to trail, kept fuller through pruning, or provided with a suitable vertical support and encouraged to climb.
That flexibility is one of the reasons Syngonium podophyllum has remained such a popular houseplant.
Pet Safety
Not pet friendly. Syngonium podophyllum contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and can cause significant irritation of the mouth if chewed or ingested by cats or dogs.
Keep it away from pets and small children likely to chew foliage.
