Care Guide
Light
Provide bright, indirect light.
Adequate light supports healthy growth and allows the plant to maintain its variegated foliage, while prolonged harsh direct sun can damage the leaves—particularly the lighter portions, which contain less chlorophyll than green tissue.
Water
Allow the upper portion of the potting mix to begin drying before watering thoroughly.
Let excess water drain freely and avoid keeping the root zone continuously saturated. A well-aerated root environment is important for Philodendrons.
Humidity
Moderate humidity is appreciated, although the plant can adapt to normal household conditions.
Good airflow remains important, particularly when humidity is higher.
Temperature
Warm, stable indoor temperatures are best. Protect the plant from cold drafts and sudden temperature extremes.
Fertilizer
Feed periodically during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to its directions.
Variegation does not mean the plant needs unusually heavy feeding. Avoid overfertilizing in an attempt to encourage faster growth or stronger coloration.
Growth Habit
Green Congo is a self-heading Philodendron, rather than a vining or climbing type.
New foliage develops from the central growing area, and the plant gradually forms a broad, upright-to-spreading shape as it matures.
The amount and pattern of variegation can vary naturally from one leaf to another.
Pet Safety
Not pet friendly. Philodendrons contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic if chewed or ingested by cats and dogs. Keep this plant away from pets and small children who may chew foliage.
